It is so centsible!
It has begun cropping up so I thought I would do a post highlighting this cool idea.
It even fits with my NY state of mind since a bunch of it seems to be inspired by The Standard Grill flooring done by NOTCOT.
With a little digging I found quite a few different examples. And I think I really like the look though I'm not sure I could commit to a big space even though it has such an impact. Some people just did their bathrooms or a table which is great!

What? This is amazing! This would make an awesome backsplash...
I've seen this idea floating around too and I just LOVE it, but good grief it would be a lot of work!

This must have taken forever! but it looks awesome!

Hi there! The kitchen floor took one day to place the 7,500 coins and another day to finish using the same method as the table counter (epoxy resin / varnish).
All in all it cost about £100 - far cheaper than using tiles and a lot more interesting. Love how the coins shimmer as they catch the light differently when you walk past.
This is so cool! I love how it turned out :-) Awesome idea. Stopping by from My Girlish Whims.

I did my kitchen floor in pennies.... over 30,000 of them, all heads up & facing the same direction. :)
Here's a news piece about it:

Cool. I think the government should sell floors like this made with the dollar coins they can get anyone to use. I'll bet people would pay more than face value for them.

It's one of the most unique flooring ideas I've seen!
Has anyone tried this?
I am wondering how it holds up under normal wear and tear?
You do realize you are taking US currency out of circulation?!?!?!
What was used to seal over the pennies on the floor I wonder?...,,would love to try this
Are pennies taken out of circulation when they sit in a piggy bank for years? Consider them to be in savings...on your floor.
Very cool! I'd probably do a table in the living room.
This is highly illegal....
Currency isn't backed by anything anymore, so essentially they're just tiny copper-plated tiles. Putting value on something that has nothing to make it valuable to begin with. Now that's the crime.
very unique blog post. Thanks
Can you imagine the effect if you cleaned all of the pennies with Tarn-X first? None of this would work in my home but it's very cool!
My brother used pennies to make a presidential portrait (of Lincoln of COURSE) ... I posted a picture on my blog

Fab examples + links here!
Followed the top pic from Pinterest, but image didn't exist at orig. site, then found your site. I posted your link instead. :-)

Please check out my new posts!
Thanks,

How do you keep them from becoming tarnished? They do so easily.
It's not illegal to deface currency in the US as long as you don't try to spend it afterwards. That's why those machines at tourist attractions that press pennies into shapes are legal.
We just presented this at the Maker Faire, here is a cool handout we did for it:

Seems to me this comes under the defacing of money? Just a thought.
This is such a beautiful idea for my kitchen floor. Looks like hard work but it seems to be worth it!
It is the person's property. They can do with it as they please.
No it is not. They haven't been destroyed. They are still there and could still be cleaned and spent.
Wrong
For all those so concerned with defacing the money that our Government just will print more of, this activity is not illegal.
Pennies are technically not legal tender. They are classified that way so that people don't go to a store with a coffee can of them and try to buy things. In all states of the union, except IL (One of the states with ties to Lincoln) a store can refuse a customer who tries to purchase with large amounts of pennies.
I really like these idea,Very unique.I'm sure if I will do the same I will get good feedback with many of my neighbors.
Right! It went to court in the 80s because people were smelting them down because the copper was worth more than the penny. The courts ruled that once you earn the money it's yours to do what you wish with it: make a floor or whatever... Now pennies are made of zinc and coated in copper. So... Ya, do it. Oh and Fuck the federal reserve, they fucked up the whole country! Build your whole god damn house in pennies.
What a great idea! Love it!

I wonder if these pennies have value. Are they out of circulation? Anyway, the flooring is beautiful.

What do you use to hold them together?? Would it work with nickles too?? I need to use it as a back splash!!
I wonder how much many worth of pennies have value.
Yeah, You are very creative. Great information have you made with that floor.
Cork tiles for kitchen

I'm redoing my kitchen and need new flooring in Phoenix. If I was a little more daring I would probably do this. I wonder if on really hot days it starts to smell at all. I don't like the smell of metal so I don't know if I could handle that.
I liked your blog its nice. Keep it up good work and interesting for me!
Flooring Calgary
Hi all. The penny floor is covered and sealed in a resin/varnish.
No smells, easy to clean and still looking super after almost 2 years!
It inspired the £25,000 champagne label wall although I'm not sure what I'm going to do next to beat that. Perhaps wallpaper a room in $1 bills :)
Thanks for sharing all this. We've been trying to do some flooring in Calgary. What would you suggest?
This would be pretty on some flower boxes outside and over time they get a pretty patina color
This a new kind of flooring, I hope consumer will use it, This will come better than Wooden Flooring, that is my personal thinking.
Whoooaaaaa....This is cool. I may definitely have to ask the company I was going to use in my house for flooring in Victoria, BC if they could help me out with this. Unless y'all think I could do this on my own?
Good flooring ideas. Choosing the right option for kitchen flooring is essential for any homeowner looking to remodel or fixing up an outdated kitchen. There are three types of kitchen floors such as Vinyl, Tile and Wood.

I think the penny flooring is so cool. Does it wear well? I've looked for vinyl flooring in Akron, Ohio, but would love to do the penny floor instead. Any thoughts?
Wow, very amazing, how did you managed to collect those thousands of pennys, and what kind of adhesive.
