It has begun cropping up so I thought I would do a post highlighting this cool idea.
It even fits with my NY state of mind since a bunch of it seems to be inspired by The Standard Grill flooring done by NOTCOT.
With a little digging I found quite a few different examples. And I think I really like the look though I'm not sure I could commit to a big space even though it has such an impact. Some people just did their bathrooms or a table which is great!

Hi there! The kitchen floor took one day to place the 7,500 coins and another day to finish using the same method as the table counter (epoxy resin / varnish).
All in all it cost about £100 - far cheaper than using tiles and a lot more interesting. Love how the coins shimmer as they catch the light differently when you walk past.

Cool. I think the government should sell floors like this made with the dollar coins they can get anyone to use. I'll bet people would pay more than face value for them.

Currency isn't backed by anything anymore, so essentially they're just tiny copper-plated tiles. Putting value on something that has nothing to make it valuable to begin with. Now that's the crime.

How do you keep them from becoming tarnished? They do so easily.
It's not illegal to deface currency in the US as long as you don't try to spend it afterwards. That's why those machines at tourist attractions that press pennies into shapes are legal.

No it is not. They haven't been destroyed. They are still there and could still be cleaned and spent.

For all those so concerned with defacing the money that our Government just will print more of, this activity is not illegal.
Pennies are technically not legal tender. They are classified that way so that people don't go to a store with a coffee can of them and try to buy things. In all states of the union, except IL (One of the states with ties to Lincoln) a store can refuse a customer who tries to purchase with large amounts of pennies.

Right! It went to court in the 80s because people were smelting them down because the copper was worth more than the penny. The courts ruled that once you earn the money it's yours to do what you wish with it: make a floor or whatever... Now pennies are made of zinc and coated in copper. So... Ya, do it. Oh and Fuck the federal reserve, they fucked up the whole country! Build your whole god damn house in pennies.

I'm redoing my kitchen and need new flooring in Phoenix. If I was a little more daring I would probably do this. I wonder if on really hot days it starts to smell at all. I don't like the smell of metal so I don't know if I could handle that.

Hi all. The penny floor is covered and sealed in a resin/varnish.
No smells, easy to clean and still looking super after almost 2 years!
It inspired the £25,000 champagne label wall although I'm not sure what I'm going to do next to beat that. Perhaps wallpaper a room in $1 bills :)
