Book Review - When God was a Rabbit

This book has amazing imagery and similes. I think that everyone can find a relationship that they relate to within this story. I miss writing like this, from my amazing high school reading lists. It is a narrative of a girl as she grows and focus's on her bond with her brother.

As the back cover says:
"This is a book about a brother and a sister.

It's a book about childhood
and growing up, friendships and
families, triumph and tragedy
and everything in between.

More than anything, it's a book
about love in all its forms."

Here is the article written by the Globe and Mail.

The author, Sarah Winman, was born in 1964, in London, England, and this is her first book after being an actor for 23 years. Sadly, she isn't going to be coming out with another book, she says for around 2 years (though she has begun it).

I loved the book. It calls upon ones own memories and is beautifully written.

Movie Review - Soul Surfer

"I don't need easy. I just need possible."

Soul Surfer is a story about passion and family and strength. It is able to be motivational and inspiring without being too corny.
Based on a true story it is about a girl of great courage who must face the challenge of losing her arm in a shark attack while doing her life's passion, surfing.
It made me really question my own position in life at the moment and not only be thankful but also reflect on how I can make the most of it and what I should be doing. The movie left me a little down and very serious but it was riveting and spoke many truths.

Book Review - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Series

Remember writing book reviews/outlines in Elementary and Junior High School? Making silly presentations like would be movie posters? (I think I did Holes before the movie actually came out). I'm going to try this again without giving anything away.

The series by Stieg Larsson has been popular for a while and there is already a Swedish film out on it (with subtitles) but the Americanized version is in the works. I thought that the first book took a while to get into which surprised me considering I had such high expectations of it. The reading is fast though, by using simple structure and word choice overall and I did love the books. Be prepared for a bit of graphics but also a gripping mystery-type story. Taking place in Sweden it, follows the life of a strange girl who winds up in many different situations where she must fight against authority and 'the norm.
